Consulting and Freelance

When time allows, I am available for consulting and freelance communications projects.

Consulting

My areas of expertise for consulting are risk and crisis communications and qualitative research.

Risk and crisis communications consultations will be tailored to the client’s needs.  The first step is always to assess risk:  what can go wrong, and what is and is not within your control? From there, we can develop strategies to respond to different types of crises, knowing that we will never be able to predict the type and intensity of any crisis. I have consulted on crisis communications plans for businesses in the animal agriculture and banking industries. I am available for workshops, speaking, and other training on the topic.

Qualitative research provides a deeper understanding of a phenomenon.  While quantitative research involves numbers, qualitative studies investigate words and seek to find the why behind the phenomenon. Qualitative research generally utilizes interviews, focus groups, observations, and document research.  As a former reporter, I approach a qualitative study as a giant story.  I love conducting interviews and getting to the reasons to explain something, rather than the numbers that give us a snapshot. I like talking to people, and getting to tell their stories through my research is a thrill for me.

Freelance

I still enjoy getting to flex my reporting and storytelling muscles.  Depending on the time of year, I am available for reporting, interviews, video, and editing. I can also help with talent coaching and consulting. Contact me for my hourly and day rates. All my work is uploaded on my YouTube site. A few highlights of work are below.

Video Editing – Texas Tech: 100 Years in my Family

I created this as a tribute to Texas Tech University’s Centennial Celebration. Members of my family have been attending Texas Tech since its beginning. This was my way of saying happy birthday.

Video Hosting – Champions in Agriculture for KCBD-TV

Reporting – 2018 New Mexico Blizzard

I don’t get to report as much as I would like, but this is an example of one of the stories I wrote, shot, and edited for AgDay Television.

Photography

Although video is my strength, I am an average photographer. Here are some of my favorites.
